Our Story

Ristorante La Piola has been a neighborhood secret since it opened in 2002, offering fresh, local ingredients in the inspired by the flavors and ideals of Italian cuisine. During this long period we have continually adapted to better support our neighbourhood, and city we live in.

We are always seeking innovative ways to provide quality affordable food for our community, that is how we have evolved into the casual Market-Café we are today.  Whether you crave fresh homemade pasta, traditional thin crust pizza or something to take home like a homemade lasagna, gnocchi or fresh made sauces we have it all!   Beginning in September 2011, we will be offering seasonal events such as a monthly dining event (September is a Harvest Festival Dinner!), Cooking Classes, and  the opportunity to book private parties for Birthdays, Christmas, and more.

Making all this possible are La Piola’s Chefs Zoe O’Doherty and Kyle Gignac.  After years spent training in some of Canada’s best restaurants and catering companies, they have found a home at La Piola where they can share their passion for food without the pretensions of fine dining.  Clean flavors and seasonal ingredients are the essence of Italian food, and the foundation of every dish we serve at La Piola.  Whether it be a daily special, or a 5 course plated dinner, all our food is prepared from scratch with the best ingredients available.  Our open kitchen allows guests to see how our food is prepared, and the Chef’s enjoy the opportunity to meet and chat with the people we serve.

Ristorante La Piola follows ethical industry practices including the use of sustainable food products, from the vegetables purchased from Island farms to Oceanwise fish species harvested exclusively from local waters. Kitchen waste is composted whenever possible, reducing La Piola’s landfill impact by up to 75%. We are proud to support the following local producers:

Open Tuesday to Saturday
for Lunch & Dinner, the kitchen is open from 11:30am-8pm. The market is open until all meals have been served. Take-out is available for all menu items. Reservations available for for groups of 6 or more.
